Native American PBL
In this PBL you will examine the 7 Native American Cultural Regions. You will work in groups of 2 using your History Alive Textbook to read and analyze each region. Using the Reading Notes 3 page supplied you will read and take notes from the History Alive text pages 29-37. On the Reading Notes page, you will record the name of the region, the tribes that made this region their home, and a list of all the artifacts that were mentioned in the text. After that, you will tape the two sheets together being careful to line up the map on each sheet. Then, use the map on page 29 to color code and label the regions on your notes.
Native American Project Based Task
The Task:
The Native American Society of Elders is creating a Native American Museum of History. They feel it is important to correctly and authentically create a display of each Native American Cultural Region for their visitors that is interesting and innovative. Using the research material you have collected from the section above choose one region that most fits your interest and form a group of no more than 3-4 of your classmates with the same choice. You will then do further research in order to present one of the following 6 regions. [Arctic (Inuit), Northwest Kwakiutl), Plateau (Nez Perce), Southwest (Hopi), Plains (Pawnee), and Southeastern (Seminole). It is your job to create a display and group presentation that highlights your region according to the guidelines outlined by the society in the form of a rubric. Since facts are very important, each task must be researched, carefully created and a well written description must accompany your display. Remember, you are not only a researcher but a designer as well.
Rubric for the Native American Museum
It is your job to create accurate items to go into the museum display. Each of the tasks below must have notes taken to answer the questions as you go so that a research paper can be constructed at the end in the form of an informational article. Underlined information will be used in your article at the end.
Task# 1
Where was your Native American tribe located on the continent? Using a map, represent the location of your tribe by shading in colored pencil the area in which your tribe lived. Include any important physical features of this region. Explain how the location and climate affected the tribe.

Describe how your tribe used the environment and physical features to obtain food, clothing, and shelter. Represent the type of food, clothing and shelter that they used in a model, diagram, or drawing.
Task# 3
